ENVI for GIS
Overview
This concentrated two-day class will introduce ENVI as an ideal platform for creating and updating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from imagery. Students will learn the basics of image visualization, and then move on to the advanced vector data analysis functionality in ENVI. Topics include image registration for transferring geographic coordinates from one image to another (including automatic ground control point selection), image to map registration, vector overlay and vector creation and update.
Goals
- Learn how to read virtually any type of raster image into ENVI
- Learn the difference between Vector and Raster data and how to work with Vectors in ENVI
- Learn how to use ENVI’s image registration and geometric correction tools to reference images to geographic coordinates and/or correct them to match base image geometry.
- Learn how to use ENVI Zoom to display multispectral images
- Learn to use Feature extraction to extract features from a multispectral dataset
Audience
This course is designed for GIS users who would like to create and update their spatial data using imagery.
Prerequisites and Recommendations
Prospective students having experience working with GIS and some basic theoretical knowledge in image analysis will have an added advantage.
